Monsieur A
Only son of the eldest of two brothers, Monsieur A languishes in his dusty family estate wondering what to do with his life. He is extraordinarily clever in a dark way, but sometimes his intellect keeps him from realizing who his friends are. Since his parents' untimely drowning Monsieur A has lived alone in his family's large, stately manor. All that has ever been seen of the estate is the curtained boudoir where he occasionally receives guests.


Professor Normal
Normal in all respects, the Professor enjoys the comforts of Black Jean-Jacques' family estate, where he conducts his experiments.


Monsieur Grenouille
This simple man is a clerk, sent by the government from another part of the land to be the village magistrate. He doesn't understand the inhabitants of A-ville, and his frustration with them gives him ulcers.
He has a funny accent, because he comes from a place on the other side of the land where people are green and strange instead of blue and strange.



Stefan and Montopolis
With a child's lack of concern for the feelings of others, Black Jean-Jacques' young nephews leave a trail of destruction in their wake when they come to visit their uncle . . . until they meet N'Cha.






Black Jean- Jacques
The youngest of two brothers, Black Jean- Jacques owns most of the town's land. He rents out his family estate--which is smaller than Monsieur A's, but on a higher hill--to Professor Normal. To save money, Black Jean-Jacques lives in the unheated servants' cottage, maintaining a quiet and peaceful existence. Most of his time is spent drinking coffee in the café and observing the town's inhabitants.


N'Cha

An orphan taken in by Maman Lapin, this little girl is the town's newest resident. For such a young creature, she has quite a mysterious past..


Anatole
The town's butcher (and, in the summer, its poissonnier), Anatole is Mssr. A's friend above all. He's naïve, trustworthy, and capable of great violence when necessary.



Maman Lapin
Matronly owner of the town supply store, Maman Lapin is good-natured and affectionate with strong maternal instincts. She creates most of A-ville's commerce, but more importantly Maman Lapin makes sure people have what they need..
